Yoda is one of the fictional characters in the Star Wars universe and is portrayed as an incredibly powerful Jedi Master in the Star Wars universe.

In the original Star Wars films, Yoda trained Luke Skywalker to fight and conquer the evil Galactic Empire. Luke Skywalker landed on Dagobah to seek the guidance of the Grand Master Jedi, after being instructed to do so by the Force ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Instead of identifying himself immediately, Yoda tests Luke by introducing himself as a comical, backwater individual to deliberately provoke Luke. After determining Luke exhibits many of the flaws that led to his father’s downfall, Yoda was very  reluctant to teach him in the ways of the Force.  But after a strong request by Obi-Wan’s Yoda agreed to teach the young Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Jedi.

In the prequel movies, Yoda served as a Grand Master Jedi and was a leading member of the Jedi Council. He also served as a general in the Clone Wars movie.

Yoda’s final appearance was in the Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Yoda was sick and greatly weakened by old age.  He told Luke that his training was complete but would not be a complete Jedi until he confronts Darth Vader. Yoda also confirms that Vader was Luke’s father.
